Hi Shaquanda...for some reason I was on Facebook and just read about your situation. Just want you to know that God is with sweetie. Keep praying and believing that He will work miracles. He WILL turn this thing around, but you gotta believe! I pray that God will continue to bless you and keep you strong. This is definately a life's lesson. I LOVE YOU! and continue to keep the faith!

Just thinking the same thing myself. Prayer is all fine and good, but also Take Action if you want the situation to improve.

To put it another way... BE THE HAND of the Divine at work in the world. Be a tool and force for positive change.

I have written to the Governor. After this, I will also spread the word to friends who will add their support (in deeds, not just words).

Keep your spirits up, Shaquanda!

Good Morning Lovely,
God puts situations in front of us to teach us things and make us stronger individuals. I myself have endured situations that make me question my purpose in life. Quanda, you have the world's attention now baby, and a change is gonna come!( We're prayin on it!!) But in the meantime, you can be constructive with all that pain.Instead of thinking negative sweetheart, pick that head up and keep smilin, because those "white folk" in Paris may have the upper-hand RIGHT-NOW, but GOD has the last say so.Of course it hurts like heck...But turn that pain into poetry (I DO), Write a book about your life, Let's let the world know that our youth DO matter! I Love You and just know that all things (nonsense) must come to an end!

God IS. Don't ever forget that. He knows your plight and He has NOT forgotten you. I will pray for you. Hold on. Just please, hold on.

My baby sister...don't let anyone take away from you what God has given you...your strength and courage. The governor, judge and anyone else will be hearing how outrageous and WRONG this is.

Keep your head up my baby sister.

I just heard about this situation and I'm appalled. And I just want to say, that you and your family are in our prayers during this rough and trying time. Don't give up, and know that you are not alone. Keep the Faith!!!!

God Bless

I'd like to contribute my condolences as well. As I read through some of the responses in this blog, I noticed a teacher who rightfully said that you do deserve punishment.

7 Years is quite some time, but was your sentence for seven years or UP TO seven years?

I think that all of this racial ignorance has gone on for long enough. Stop looking at it like it's a racial situation- you are not the white girl you mentioned and she is not you.
Two different situations require two different sentences.

Dear Baby be encourage and keep your head high and straight. You are from supreme stock darling. Your capacity to bend is so strong that you will not break, and don't let them attempt to break you. You are a big girl now show the world a strong black woman. I just want you to stay encouraged don't loose focus of who you are and who you were raised to be. You have the love of our whole community in the Dallas Fort Worth area. Your life is not over God has set you up to do great things. Keep God in your heart, He will keep you, and effect you to be the light in the dark place.

Dear GOD:
I want to thank You for what you have already done. I am not going to
wait until I see results or receive rewards; I am thanking you right
now. I am not going to wait until I feel better or things look better; I
am thanking you right now. I am not going to wait until people say they

thanking you because I made it through the day's difficulties. I am

I'm thanking you because FATHER, YOU haven't given up on me.

Shaquanda my prayers and thoughts are with you. You made a mistake, but the punishment does not fit the mistake. This justice system, time and time again proves that there is a bias toward African Americans and something has to be done to find equality.

I just heard about your situation on 97.9 the beat in Dallas, TX. I just wanted to tell you to keep your head up. Stay focused on your family and your dreams. It is very important, right now, that you don't give up. I know it's hard to be in a place where you know you should not be, but you are covered, you are protected, you will be free. I am so sorry you have to go through this. I can't come out to march but I have done my part on your behalf by posting emails to my friends about your situation. I will write back and check on your situation periodically.
Blessed Be!

Shaquanda, I am just finding out about this and you have already been there a year. Someone mentioned to forget about all this God stuff in a comment to you, I will tell you and everyone that is out to support you to "never" believe that as an option. We cannot question him or his will for our lives. I cannot imagine what you are going through right now but I know he will see you through. I know you will overcome this because this will be nationwide and with the help of God and all these people that are out here supporting you, you will see victory. Please ask God to give you strength daily, pray daily, stay on your needs until they ache..and just trust God totally. I love you!

I just heard your story and am outraged at this injustice in this day and age. You stay strong and keep praying. God is listening and He is also watching and knows your plight. Read Phil. 4:6-7.

I TAKE THIS MATTER VERY PERSONAL, I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET THIS INCIDENT OUT MY HEAD SINCE I HEARD ABOUT IT ON RICKY SMILEY'S MORNING RADIO SHOW. OUR PEOPLE NEED TO STICK TOGETHER ON THIS ONE AND DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO FREE THIS CHILD AND TO MAKE SURE THAT THE POWERS THAT BE ARE PUT IN THEIR PLACE. OUR PEOPLE ARE STRONG BELIEVERS IN PRAYER AND SO AM I BEING A CHRISTIAN WOMAN, BUT PRAYER WITHOUT WORKS IS NO GOOD. TARSHA 469-254-6900

Keep your head up, Shaquanda! Be strong little sister and don't lose your faith in God.

Psalms Chapter 16:1-11 reads:

1 Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust. 2 O my soul, thou hast said unto the LORD, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee; 3 But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight. 4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips. 5 The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot. 6 The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage. 7 I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons. 8 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. 9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. 10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Psalms 103

1 Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; 4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; 5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's. 6 The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed. 7 He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel. 8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. 9 He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. 10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. 11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. 13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. 14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. 15 As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. 16 For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more. 17 But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children; 18 To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them. 19 The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all. 20 Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. 21 Bless ye the LORD, all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure. 22 Bless the LORD, all his works in all places of his dominion: bless the LORD, O my soul.

Shaquanda and family - I'm so sorry to hear about your case. Several years ago I was also the target of a erroneous, fraudulent criminal investigation and I remember during the whole process of questioning and investigation, I kept thinking to myself, "If I were a young black man who couldn't afford a lawyer in this same situation, I'd have been tried and convicted by now"

The US is continuing to expand its prison economy- we have the highest per captia imprisonment in the world, and a highly disproportionate number of black people in prison. Its inexcusable and barbaric.

I hope you can take comfort in the fact that there are some of us out here fighting the system that did this to you. We are wise to their agenda and their time is coming.

Take care and good luck in there.

We're going to write your govenor and the President! This is an outrage!! Please know this if you don't know anything else...Turn this into something POSITIVE! It might seem gloomy and hopeless, but if you turn this around and make it work in your favor, you've hurt them WAY more than any type of revenge could! Get your diploma, continue your education, and educate as many other young adults as possible! Make a change in the world from this experience! Shaquanda --

I wouldn't have expected anything about the US criminal justice system to surprise me. But your case is so extreme that I thought it was an urban legend till I saw the press reports.

I have a 13-year old son and I cannot imagine what it would be like for him to be jailed for anything at all -- let alone shoving a hall monitor. That is too young to be incarcerated except under the most extreme circumstances.

What on earth is going on there in Texas? Have they all completely lost their minds? And why have you been in jail for 10 months? Has no organization taken up your cause?

Oh my goodness, hang on tight there, Shaquanda. Hang on tight to your life and to your ability to feel joy and to move beyond this trauma once you are out of this terrible situation. I believe that people have nearly endless ability to heal.

Hello Ms. Lady, I can't really say that I understand what you're going through but I will say that I know you're strong enough to beat this. One thing I always say to myself when things go wrong is "Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, strength to chage the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference". I have faith in you, now you need to have faith in yourself. And remember that if you were meant to leave this earth at this point in your life, God would've allowed you to kill yourself. You were made for purpose by purpose, so show the world that you can beat this. But most importantly, show YOURSELF that you can beat this. Much Luv!!!

I am so glad to see you get the support and attention that you need. Too bad you did not have that the first 14 years of your life. Maybe some of these people will come to Paris and try to do the same for the rest of your family. Maybe they can provide a place for people like you and your siblings so you can get the help you all deserve. Let them pray that they can find positive activities, besides getting high on the front porch or feeling that you need to be with any guy that shows you the lest bit of attention. I really hope you can bring yourself to ask God to help you in times of you and your family needs, and please don’t forget to ask him for the wisdom you need to get through this. I too will have this entire town in my prayers.

Hi Shaquanda,

I am outraged by your story. Your towns legal system seems to be stuck in 1800s.

No real judge in his right mind would uphold your sentence and I encourage you to appeal at a state or even national level.

I am not going to say anything about God but I will say that if you can manage to keep yourself a good person, that will be the greatest gift that your racist town could ever give to you.

If you can get through this, and stay free minded (not to become a follower of the people you find yourself associating with), you will grow up with the strength and experience to really make a difference in your community and the ability to make another big step forward for civil rights in your country.

You will be one of the few people strong enough to take on Texas! Take on all the southern states that live in the past.

This could be a golden opportunity to learn first hand what is wrong with your town and even a state that would let this happen.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think they are really doing you any good by lockign you up but you will become a truly unique, brave woman from the experience. Don't let them break you, you sound like you have been through enough without them ruining your life.

I am not religious so I won't quote you anything from the bible. If you are religious, hold on to that, if you are not, when it turns to shite, think about people like Rosa Parks and remember that you have the potential to step into those shoes.

:) Dana

Hey, Shaquanda
I will be keeping you in my prayers. My heart really goes out to you and your family. This is unfair, unjust, and ridiculous that our people and especially our young children are facing such discrimination. I pray that you are released very soon, but if not please stay strong and rememember that alot of people are thinking of you, and love you. But never forget the love God has for all his children, and he will comfort you and guide you, if you allow him to, so put your trust in him and everything will be all right. We must not hate or have any hate in our hearts towards the people that have caused us a great deal of pain, but rather pray for them and pray for their soul and God will deal with them when the time comes. Let God handle all revenge, God is kind and God is Love and God will make every situation all right, according to plan. rememember you will be in my prayers. Should you need anyone to talk to anytime for support or anything please feel free to email me anytime at kepre07@aol.com

Read and learn about the system and hopefully you will find out a way to defeat it, if not, help others in the same situation. Be STRONG because that is how you win. NEVER give up hope. Shaquanda I am not sure what to say but I know I want to say something. Shaquanda stay with God. The devil is in our midst and he is trying to make God's faithful followers waiver in thoughts and beliefs. This is a very bad situation but you have to stay positive. Look at it as a test; a test of faith. And tell the devil that HE IS A LIAR! All the hurdles he is trying to throw your way you won't waiver but continue to believe. God is a miracle working God and "if you have the faith the size of a mustard seed you can have miracles larger than you believe"

They can take your freedom, take tangible and frivolous materials of the world but they cannot take your soul and what is in your soul.

Stay strong and keep an unwaivering heart

I Love YOU!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe this has happened to you! How could a judge justify such a ridiculous ruling?! When I heard about your case I can honestly say I felt ashamed to be an American--I don't want to be a citizen of a country filled with so much hatred, injustice, and hypocrisy. One good thing about America is that the public can speak out about such injustices and bind together to become a powerful force. THIS WILL HAPPEN! The fact that I'm a stranger to you, and so are many many other people who have read your blog and posted on it (and it has only been up for a few weeks), and joined your facebook group attests to this. Public awareness is being raised and protests will be staged. This is how racism will be destroyed. By people uniting behind the cause and putting up a fight. Look at The Civil Rights Movement, probably the most important thing in 20th century U.S. history; it came about just like this: by people uniting and relentlessly fighting for change. It's called a movement for a reason, the people moved and pushed against the establishment until it too moved and changed its laws. Its the only way that anything big change ever happens. Shaquanda, keep that head up, know that people across the nation love you and are fighting for you. Be proud that you've set the ball rolling on a fight much bigger than your own. You've ignited a movement. A resurgence of a movement for justice and equality for all. This is the stuff that history is made of. I'm far away from you, living in los angeles and I've already been affected by your story. If I have to knock on every single door in los angeles to set you free I will, and I'm only one person, I'm sure many others feel the same way I do and put togtether that's a lot of doors being knocked on. Justice will be served! I know it. With such passion there is justice. Don't stop pushing until you get your way. None of us will stop pushing either. No is not an option. My heart and mind will be with you! Keep posting and updating us on your life, I'll encourage everyone I know to write to the governer, to notify local (and national) newspapers, magazines, and news stations. We Love You!

i second kimberly michelle's comments. i wish there was more i could do besides offer words of encouragement. the truth is that you are the victim of a deeply racist climate that has been brewing in these backwoods (rural) texas towns for some time. my hope is that you're the spark that ignites change. i'll forward this story along.

God bless you!

I found this story very appalling.

Although I do not know all the facts, this sounds extreme.

White, black, red or yellow the skin should not matter. This is just not right.

Keep your head up! You are in the thoughts and prayers of many in this country.

Shaquandra,
Just keep holding on. It is ALL going to work out. Just hold your peace and the Lord will fight your battle. I know what Paris is like. I am so glad that I left that hell-hole/one-horse town. Your mom and the Concerned Citizens for Racial Equality (CCFRE) have worked extremely hard and refused to give up. You can best believe that Judge Superville, Paris ISD, Paris, TX, and the racist/crooked police officers will have to give an account for this. Oh yes, JUSTICE will be served. It amazes me how someone can kill two people with a vehicle and only receive probation and be convicted of arson and only receive probation as well. I am praying for you and your mom. Everything is going to be okay. When you are released, walked with your head held high. Let God use you and continue to fight your battles for you. God Bless You. Amen! Romans 8:9

oh sweetie, my heart broke when i read your story, i got it from a friend on my yahoo list. i was horrified to hear of such behavior in our judicial system. i am a mother of 5 teenagers 4 of which are girls. i have been to the school many times due to their misbehaviors, your so called crime is nothing, not even worth the tax payers money to bring you into court. i could see okay maybe a detention or something along those lines. this is an outrage and i will definately be keeping and your family in my prayers. keep your faith sweetie, keep your head up because above all else you are a beautiful young woman. i will do all i can for you.
your new friend

Hello My little Sister!
this is your sister saying God will not leave you in there. However, when you do come out this event will be a lesson for you to teach others. Respect your Elders! God do not reward bad behavior. God loves you and wont leave you in there. But you must learn the value in respecting the Elders in your life.

dear shaquanda,
i've seen many levels of injustice, but this is being done in the open with no consequences for the judges decision. i pray that this will all come out one day. stay strong girl. don't give up on yourself or your faith. live. live to get your story out so this judge will not be able to take away another african-american childhood for a misdemeanor offense. an offense that the white victim's title was upgraded to "police" to make it a felony. you have many people from all over praying for you. and if it's any comfort, that judge too, will one day be judged. (probably not by the color of his skin)
much love
d.

Dear Shaquanda,

Keep you're head up! In history we've been learning about Rubin Carter, the wrongly accused boxer, who was accused of murder. He was jailed, but eventually he got justice! Stay strong, many people will make sure you get your justice too!

I'll keep yuo in my prayers until you get justice.

Whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just heard of your release and I'm absolutely bloody delighted! You should never have been in there in the first place. Look forward to seeing you on Oprah in the coming weeks/months. Bless you sweetheart, gain strength from coming through this horrible experience with your pride and dignity intact. Unlike those who did this to you, you can hold your head up knowing you did NOTHING wrong. Love Ann in the UK (again) xxxxxxxxxx

I am glad to see that you have been freed. Always rember that you have your black brothers and sisters behind you..... We are behind every step of the way, I wasn't aware of how serious this was until I read the news for my self. I was very-very angry about this and if I had to protest everyday until you got some kind of justice I will. They will not get away with anything...they have been doing dirt to black people for too long and one day that will end. So, little sistah keep your head up, cause you have a second chance and one thing that can not take away from you is your self-rightousness and your bravery.
